Photovoltaic Backplane

Short Description:

A Photovoltaic (PV) backplane sheet is an essential component in solar panel manufacturing. It serves as the supportive and protective layer at the back side of a photovoltaic module. Here’s a detailed introduction:

What is a Photovoltaic Backplane Sheet?
A photovoltaic backplane sheet is a specialized material used as the bottom layer in solar panels. Its primary function is to provide a stable, durable, and weather-resistant foundation for the entire solar module.

Key Functions of a PV Backplane Sheet:
Protection: Shields the internal components of the solar panel from environmental elements such as moisture, UV radiation, dirt, and mechanical impacts.
Structural Support: Offers mechanical stability to the solar cell assembly, ensuring they remain securely in place.
Temperature Management: Sometimes designed with thermal properties to aid in heat dissipation.
Electrical Insulation: Ensures electrical safety by preventing any unintended current flow to the supports or the environment.
Transparency or Opacity: Depending on the design, it can be transparent (for certain types of solar modules such as BIPV – Building Integrated Photovoltaics) or opaque.
Common Materials Used:
EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate): Often used as an encapsulant material, but sometimes the backsheet is made from EVA or similar polymers.
Polymer Films: Such as PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) or PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride), known for UV resistance and durability.
Composite Materials: Multi-layer composites that combine polymers and other materials.
PVC or PVF Films: For durability and weather resistance.
Types of Backplane Sheets:
Single-layer backplane: Made of one type of material, usually simpler and less expensive.
Multi-layer backplane: Combines various materials to optimize durability, flexibility, and weather resistance.
Importance in Solar Module Efficiency:
The quality and material choice for the backplane sheet directly impact the longevity, performance, and safety of the solar panel, making it a critical component for long-term energy generation.

Photovoltaic backplane sheet - made by hot pressing composite of multi-layer glass fiber reinforced PP prepreg tape. In order to improve the appearance quality and certain functional layers, functional materials can be composite on the upper and lower surfaces (such as coating process, adhesive composite process, or hot pressed composite functional film). The unit area mass of continuous fiberglass impregnated reinforced PP unidirectional tape is 245-450g/㎡, with a glass fiber content of 60-70%. The specific structure and unit area mass can be designed according to the requirements of the photovoltaic panel.

    PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS

Lightweight and high-strength:Replacing traditional glass with continuous glass fiber reinforced PP sheets for laminated packaging can achieve the characteristics of "softness, thinness, and beauty". The thickness of the 0.45mm sheet is only 750gsm per unit area.

Cost reduction:The material cost is relatively lower compared to PET materials or fiberglass fabric materials, and it compresses the costs of purchasing, handling, packaging, and transportation of metals and glass in photovoltaic systems.

The basic performance fully meets the requirements:The product design can meet the requirements of component waterproofness, UV resistance, waterproofness, UV resistance, and heat oxidative aging resistance: the tensile strength retention rate of 160 ℃ -30 days is ≥ 50%. Compared to other materials, continuous fiber thermoplastic composites have good toughness while also possessing a certain degree of rigidity.

Easy to install:Unlike traditional photovoltaic modules that require piercing the connection between the roof and purlins during installation, the use of thermoplastic backboards for component adhesive installation can achieve a rootless and zero penetration installation effect. This not only saves a lot of labor costs and 40% of engineering time, but also does not affect the waterproof function of the roof due to penetration.
